SummaryGuided by knowledge of the basic principles of nursing based on the biological, physical, and psycho‑social sciences, the RN utilizes judgment supported by evidence and nursing theory in the delivery of nursing care. Provides, coordinates, and/or delegates nursing care and manages resources in the delivery of care for patients, families, and the community, with the goal of attaining, maintaining and restoring optimum health.
FormalEducation Required
- Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Associate's degree candidates considered; must obtain BSN within three (3) years of employment
- Graduate of a professional nursing program accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN)
- Current license to practice registered nursing in the State of Ohio
- PRN RN’s must have at least one year of recent experience in the area of practice.
- One year of related RN experience required for weekend option positions.
- Additional related previous experience and/or preparation may be required for specialty units.
- Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye‑hand coordination.
- Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
- Requires corrected vision and hearing within normal range.
- Requires working under stressful conditions or irregular hours.
- Requires exposure to communicable disease, body fluids, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, and other potentially hazardous conditions common to a clinical environment, such as risk of falls and strains.
- Maintains current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. New nurses in critical care, progressive care, medical telemetry, PACU, and ED must complete Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within the first six months and maintain current certification. Experienced RNs hired into ACLS‑required areas are expected to have ACLS upon hire or must complete within six weeks.
- Additional education or certifications may be required for specialty areas (e.g., PALS, NIH, Non‑Violet Crisis Intervention).
- Ability to effectively interact with diverse patient populations, respecting self‑respect, dignity and diversity.
- Heavy:
Exerts 50-100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25-50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10-20 pounds of force continuously to move objects.
