Advanced Practice Provider II – Critical Care

Position: 1.0 FTE, Full‑time, Benefit Eligible.

Location:

Main Akron Campus (night shift coverage at Barberton Campus). Shift: 12‑hour shift (6:00 AM – 6:00 PM or 6:00 PM – 6:00 AM), nights, weekends, holidays. Additional compensation provided for night shifts.

Develops and advances the quality of advanced practice through specialized direct patient care of complex/critically ill and/or intra‑operative patients, leadership, consultation, education and research. Works to improve processes of care for patients and ensures quality by using established standards and coordinating services with physicians, care managers, social workers, patient‑care coordinators, therapists and other community agencies.

• 12‑hour shifts (6:00 AM – 6:00 PM or 6:00 PM – 6:00 AM), nights, weekends, holidays
• Additional compensation for night shifts
• Based at Main Akron Campus; night shift coverage at Barberton Campus
• Collaborative, team‑based environment with interdisciplinary support from physicians, fellows, residents, nurses, and aides
• Both new graduates and experienced providers encouraged; acute care or prior ICU experience preferred

• Graduate of a nationally accredited Physician Assistant program (MPAS preferred) and have passed the national certification exam administered by the National Commission of Certification of Physicians Assistants; OR
• Masters Degree in Nursing with completion of an Advanced Practice program and National certification as CNP or CNS
• For APRN, must be certified as an RNFA if assisting in the OR

• Current license to practice as an advanced practice registered nurse or physician assistant in Ohio
• Minimum one‑year experience as an advanced practice provider (preferable acute‑care setting)
• BLS certification
• ACLS certification
• Completion of Summa Health System Operating Room Orientation before assisting with surgical procedures, per credentialing/privileging committee

• Excellent communication, organization, self‑motivation, accuracy, and time‑management skills
• Ability to read and interpret medical documents
• Problem‑solving in varied clinical situations
• Independent work, prioritization, and multitasking
• Competency in Microsoft Office and related computer programs
• Collaboration with interdisciplinary team
• Flexibility to meet evolving patient and team needs
• Respectful interaction with complex/critically ill patients

• Heavy: lifting 50‑100 lbs occasionally, 25‑50 lbs frequently, 10‑20 lbs continuously
• Exposure to communicable disease, body fluids, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, and other hazards
• Full body motion required for handling, lifting patients, manual/finger dexterity, eye‑hand coordination
