RN – FT – Cardiac Progressive Care Unit (Job )
Full‑Time, 36 hrs/week, 7am‑7:30pm (days), every other weekend/holiday
Location: Summa Health System – Akron Campus
Primary Patient Population: Congestive heart failure
Unit Size: 32 beds
Target Nurse‑to‑Patient Ratio: 1:4 to 1:5 (subject to change)
Highlights:
- $5/hr shift differential for nights; $1/hr for weekends
- 12‑month nurse residency program for new grads
Guided by knowledge of the basic principles of nursing based on the biological, physical, and psycho‑social sciences, utilizes judgment supported by evidence and nursing theory in the delivery of nursing care. Provides, coordinates and/or delegates nursing care and manages resources in the delivery of care for patients, the family of patients and the community, with the goal of attaining, maintaining and restoring optimum health.
FormalEducation Required
- Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN). Applicants with an Associate’s degree may be considered but must obtain BSN within three (3) years of employment.
- Graduate of a program accredited by CCNE or ACEN.
- Current license to practice registered nursing in the State of Ohio.
- PRN RN’s must have at least one‑year recent experience in the area of practice.
- One year of related RN experience is required for weekend option positions.
- Additional related previous experience and/or preparation may be required for specialty units.
- Full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, eye‑hand coordination.
- Standing and walking for extended periods of time.
- Corrected vision and hearing within normal range.
- Ability to work under stressful conditions or irregular hours.
- Exposure to communicable disease, body fluids, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, and other potentially hazardous conditions common to a clinical environment.
- Maintains current Basic Life Support certification; new nurses must complete Advanced Cardiac Life Support within first six months.
- Population‑specific competencies such as PALS, NIH, Non‑Violet Crisis Intervention may be required.
- Ability to effectively interact with diverse patient populations with respect, dignity, and diversity.
- Heavy:
Exerts 50‑100 lbs occasionally, 25‑50 lbs frequently, or 10‑20 lbs continuously to move objects.
