RN – 3E Hospice and Palliative Care Unit

Full‑time position, 36 hours per week, shift 7:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m., on‑call requirement of 4 shifts per schedule.

We are Summa Health System. The role is at the Akron campus.

Guided by knowledge of the basic principles of nursing based on the biological, physical, and psycho‑social sciences, the RN will utilize judgment supported by evidence and nursing theory in the delivery of nursing care. The RN will provide, coordinate, and/or delegate nursing care and manage resources to deliver care for patients, family, and community, aiming to attain, maintain, and restore optimum health.

• BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing)
• Applicants with an Associate’s degree will be considered only if they obtain a BSN within three (3) years of employment.
• Program must be accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).
• Current license to practice registered nursing in the State of Ohio.

• PRN RN’s must have at least one year of recent experience in the area of practice.
• One year of related RN experience is required for weekend option positions.
• Additional related prior experience and/or preparation may be required for specialty units.

• Ability to handle and lift patients, and possess manual and finger dexterity, eye‑hand coordination.
• Requires standing and walking for extended periods.
• Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
• Must work under stressful conditions or irregular hours.
• Must be exposed to communicable disease, body fluids, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, and other hazardous conditions common to clinical settings.
• Maintains current Basic Life Support certification; new nurses to critical care, progressive care, medical telemetry, PACU, and ED must complete Advanced Cardiac Life Support within the first six months. Experienced RNs with ACLS required upon hire or within six weeks.

• Additional education or certifications may be required for specialty areas (e.g., PALS, NIH, Non‑Violet Crisis Intervention).
• Effective interaction with diverse patient populations, respecting their self‑respect, dignity, and diversity.

• Heavy:
  Exerts 50‑100 pounds of force occasionally, 25‑50 pounds frequently, or 10‑20 pounds continuously to move objects.
