RN – Detox Unit (4E)
Full-Time, 36 hrs/week, 7p-7:30a, every other weekend/holiday
Summa Health System – Akron Campus
Primary patient population: This acute care unit provides alcohol and chemical dependency detoxification for adults.
Unit Size: 14-bed unit; private rooms
Target Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:6 or 1:7 (subject to change based on census and patient care needs)
Highlights:
- Looking for nurses who are empathetic, compassionate, patient, and observant with a trauma‑informed approach
- $5/hr shift differential for nights; $1/hr for weekends
- 12‑month nurse residency program for new grads
Guided by knowledge of the basic principles of nursing based on the biological, physical, and psycho‑social sciences, utilizes judgment supported by evidence and nursing theory in the delivery of nursing care. Provides, coordinates, and/or delegates nursing care and manages resources in the delivery of care for patients, the family of patients, and the community, with the goal of attaining, maintaining and restoring optimum health.
FormalEducation Required
- Associate’s degree in Nursing (ADN) required; BSN preferred
- Graduate of a professional nursing program accredited by CCNE or ACEN
- Current license to practice registered nursing in the State of Ohio
- PRN RN’s must have at least one year of recent experience in the area of practice
- One year of related RN experience is required for weekend option positions
- Additional related previous experience and/or preparation may be required for specialty units
- Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye‑hand coordination
- Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time
- Requires corrected vision and hearing in normal range
- Requires working under stressful conditions or irregular hours
- Requires exposure to communicable disease, body fluids, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, and other potentially hazardous conditions common to a clinical environment (risk of falls, strains, etc.)
- Maintains current Basic Life Support certification; new nurses in critical care, progressive care, medical telemetry, PACU, and ED must complete Advanced Cardiac Life Support within the first six months and keep it current. Experienced RNs hired into areas requiring ACLS are expected to have an ACLS certification upon hire or complete it within six weeks.
- Additional education or certifications may be required for specialty areas (e.g., PALS, NIH, Non‑Violet Crisis Intervention)
- Ability to effectively interact with populations of patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self‑respect, dignity, and diversity

- Heavy:
Exerts 50‑100 pounds of force occasionally, 25‑50 pounds frequently, or 10‑20 pounds continuously to move objects
US $33.75–$53.00 per hour (base salary exclusive of bonuses or differentials). Shift differential of $5/hr for nights and $1/hr for weekends.
