The Perioperative OR nurse works with patients being prepped for surgery, their families, and as a member of the interdisciplinary care team. The RN OR evaluates the patient, plans and implements care before, during, and after surgery, provides and coordinates nursing care, and manages resources for patients and families in the operating room. The RN OR applies the nursing process, performs patient assessments, develops nursing diagnoses, and implements and evaluates interventions.
The RN OR uses judgment based on knowledge of basic nursing principles and the biological, physical, and psychosocial sciences.
- Compile total nursing assessment within the initial shift or specific time frame, including biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self‑care, educational needs, and discharge planning.
- Develop and implement a nursing plan of care based on identified diagnosis, patient needs, and standards consistent with other disciplines.
- Apply a systematic problem‑solving approach in developing, implementing, and evaluating nursing plans.
- Document implementation of the plan of care and all nursing interventions, evaluating effectiveness and revising as necessary.
- Observe aseptic technique; secure necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment for surgical procedures in accordance with CCOC policy and surgeon preferences.
- Ensure compliance with narcotics management throughout the department.
- Demonstrate competency in basic nursing practice required for total patient care and apply CCOC’s philosophy, policies, and procedures.
- Provide care in the surgical environment, document outcomes, and prioritize work to address changes in care needs.
- Delegate responsibilities based on patient needs and staff competencies while maintaining accountability.
- Communicate effectively with physicians and other disciplines to exchange patient information and provide optimal care during the perioperative experience.
- Serve as a staff orientation, training, instruction, guidance, and supervisory support as needed; assist in teaching and competency maintenance for all team members.
- Share ideas for policy and procedure improvement to enhance the department’s work environment and operation.
- Collaborate with the health care team to provide comprehensive and coordinated patient care.
- Participate in educational programs, committees, and opportunities for professional growth.
- Enter all assigned duties and support the continuum of care.
- Education:
Graduate of a school of Nursing. - Experience:
Minimum 2 to 4 years of OR experience preferred. - Technical

Current Ohio RN license; BLS required. - Schedule:
Monday – Friday; variable. - Status:
