SummarySupports the patient care team by performing multifunctional activities such as direct patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse and administrative/clerical support.
Minimum QualificationsEducation:
Must be enrolled as a full‑time or part‑time student in an accredited associate or bachelor’s degree nursing program and have completed the first clinical rotation.
An employee may remain in the NST position post‑graduation and pre‑licensure for up to six (6) months; thereafter eligibility ceases.
- Complete Summa’s orientation.
- Hold a current BLS‑HCP card upon hire and maintain it thereafter.
Qualifications:
- Ability to read and write English, follow written and oral instructions, and perform basic mathematical functions.
- Ability to work well within a team: accept and offer honest and constructive feedback, support team goals, and collaborate with patient care members to solve problems and reduce costs.
- Understand and carry out the vision of patient care at Summa—create a patient care environment focused on patient needs and expectations.
- Be self‑directed in executing responsibilities within a team structure.
- Take initiative to contribute beyond formal duties (e.g., suggest innovative ideas and provide feedback on team direction).
- Show flexibility and adaptability in meeting environmental constraints and demands common with changing reimbursement and managed care targets.
- Stand, walk, push, pull, and lift patients; clean equipment and materials; handle frequent extended periods of activity.
- Provide necessary care for patients across all age groups as required by the position.
- Effectively interact with populations of patients/customers, respecting their needs for self‑respect and dignity.
- Heavy:
Exert 50–100 pounds of force occasionally; 25–50 pounds frequently; 10–20 pounds continuously to move objects. - Exposure to blood and body fluids, sharps, risk of falls, strains, and contagious diseases.
