Advanced Safety Representative

The Advanced Safety Rep will provide the state operations with subject matter expertise for safety, health and human performance. The Advanced Safety Representative will serve as a resource to management, leadership, supervision, and union / hourly employees in the direction, planning, development and coordination of the company's safety programs. In addition, they will engage employees, visitors and contractors at all levels to promote a proactive safety culture where hazard exposure is identified and controlled or eliminated.

Responsibilities include providing technical / analytical guidance regarding OSHA regulations, performing as a Safety and Health Subject Matter Expert, collaborating with State Leadership and other First Energy Business Units to develop safety and health programs, leading/supporting state safety and health program assessments, assisting Business Unit Leadership in promoting/enhancing knowledge of and conformity with Safety and Health programs, requirements, and expectations, providing consultation during the analysis of events and assisting in the development of action plans to prevent recurrence, analyzing Safety data, assisting in developing annual Industrial Hygiene sampling plan, maintaining required records for compliance, actively participating in local safety and fleet safety committees / peer teams, developing and delivering training and presentations, educating and directing others on safety practices, supporting restoration and investigation activities during and outside of normal working hours, willing to travel as required, serving as the lead in diverse and complex projects, processes and programs, independently anticipating and meeting internal/external customer needs, actively developing and implementing safety programs and policies, integrating strategic concepts into safety activities, developing high-level solutions for complex assignments, participating and leading safety and health program teams.

Qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Safety, Health, or related discipline, with a minimum of 4-7 years of relevant work experience is required. Master's degree preferred. Certified Safety Professional (preferred). In lieu of a Bachelor's degree (preferred), a minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience is required. Supervisor experience (preferred). In depth knowledge of safety and industrial hygiene regulations and safe work practices.

Knowledge of OSHA's Electrical Power Generation, Transmission, and Distribution regulations (Subpart R and V) (preferred). Knowledge of safety and industrial hygiene practices and regulations including OSHA and DOT regulations. Basic understanding of industry standards related to Health & Safety including:
American National Standards Institute (ANSI), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) and the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC). Knowledge of Human Performance Tools and Principles. Knowledge of Root Cause Analysis. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently and in a team environment, including leading teams. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Experience with rules and regulations of Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), Department of Labor and the Workers Compensation laws of PA. Experience preparing and delivering presentations and demonstrations to diverse audiences. Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and activities. OSHA 500 Authorized Instructor for Construction (preferred). Must be willing to travel on an occasional basis to other company locations within the First Energy service territory.
