Purpose:

The Senior Quality Engineer is responsible for leading, developing, implementing and continuously improving the quality system to ensure purchased materials, manufacturing processes and finished products conform to customer, regulatory and company requirements. The role provides advanced technical leadership in quality engineering, product and process qualification, structured problem solving, supplier development, process capability, continuous improvement and audit readiness. The Senior Quality Engineer mentors less-experienced quality personnel and serves as a primary quality resource for manufacturing, engineering, suppliers and customers.

  • Lead quality-engineering activities for new, revised and existing products, including APQP-style planning, validation, control-plan development and production-readiness reviews.
  • Develop, approve and maintain quality documentation, including inspection plans, control plans, work instructions, process flow diagrams, procedures, test methods and quality records.
  • Own complex corrective and preventive action investigations; facilitate root-cause analysis using 8D, five whys, fishbone diagrams and appropriate statistical methods.
  • Analyze process capability, variation and defect trends using SPC, capability studies, measurement analysis and data-driven decision-making.
  • Lead or participate in PFMEA, risk assessments, design and process reviews, mistake-proofing activities and control-strategy improvements.
  • Plan and execute product, process and equipment qualifications, including first-article, validation and run-at-rate activities.
  • Investigate customer complaints and internal nonconformances; coordinate containment, disposition, corrective actions and effectiveness verification.
  • Provide technical direction on nonconforming material, scrap, rework and deviation decisions while ensuring proper authorization and documentation.
  • Develop and maintain supplier-quality performance measures, conduct supplier reviews and audits, and collaborate with suppliers to resolve recurring quality issues.
  • Lead continuous-improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma and other problem-solving methods to reduce defects, scrap, rework and cost of poor quality.
  • Coordinate the calibration, validation and proper use of measurement equipment, including CMM and precision measuring instruments.
  • Prepare and present quality reports, metrics, audit results and improvement recommendations to management, customers and cross-functional teams.
  • Build and maintain relationships with customer counterparts.
  • Support ISO 9000/IATF-style quality-system compliance where applicable, including internal audits, external audits, customer assessments and corrective-action follow-up.
  • Mentor quality engineers and inspectors, provide plant-wide training and help establish consistent inspection and problem-solving practices.
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, maintenance, purchasing and other departments to resolve quality issues and improve processes.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, suppliers and internal personnel while protecting confidential information.
  • Perform other duties and special assignments as delegated, directed and necessary.
