The Business Development Manager drives profitable growth by creating new business opportunities and strengthening customer relationships across industrial, utility, and construction markets. This role combines business development, technical expertise, and customer engagement to grow aftermarket products, services, and project work. The position partners with customers, sales, and technical teams to develop high‑value projects, guiding initiatives from concept through execution to ensure strategic alignment and long‑term profitability.
This role follows a hybrid working model, offering the best of both worlds with collaborative time in the B&W Akron, Ohio office combined with the flexibility to work remotely. This approach supports focused work, team connection, and work‑life balance, with the in‑office cadence aligned to the needs of the role and team. Work arrangements are designed to support both the role and the needs of the business and may shift over time.
Fully remote would be considered for the right candidate.
- Develop the strategy for and manage execution of B&W project development efforts - Fast Power projects are about working closely with the team to find the way to say “yes” to a customer who wants a project deployed on a quick turn basis. Must be able to work in an environment filled with ambiguity and help to clarify and resolve uncertainties as the project progresses.
- Maintain a working knowledge of industry trends and competitive positioning that affects the new build generation ecosystem.
- Research and analyze historical data to develop cost models that support proposal efforts.
- Participate in should-cost and pricing reviews with management and customer representatives.
- Lead project development activities, in conjunction with Sales, including selection of partners/EPC teams and stewardship of the ultimate Owner/Operator relationship.
- Prepare, facilitate, and document Go/No-Go and Bid/No-Bid Meetings with leadership stakeholders:
Ensure that good business judgment and decisions are made during these meetings. - Consult with Sales and Business Development colleagues to ensure a winning strategy is developed on each opportunity and coordinate with proposal teams to turn those strategies into actionable tactics and tasks.
- Coach and manage proposal teams on the development of clear and persuasive RFP responses.
- Ensure that proposals have compelling value propositions, technical accuracy, and competitive positioning.
- Develop negotiation strategies and gain alignment from stakeholders.
- Seek management approval of major commercial terms early in the process.
- Accountable for Commercial Terms mark-ups and negotiations, and align with Legal Counsel so certain Business requirements are met while minimizing wordsmithing.
- Lead the contract negotiating team and closes the deal.
- Participate in turnover of the project to the Project Manager and execution team.
- Additional responsibilities may be assigned as business needs evolve.
