Regional Director of Business Development

Location: Akron/Canton Market – Northeast Ohio
Reports To: Corporate Director of Business Development

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Regional Director of Business Development to lead census growth and referral development across our skilled nursing and post-acute care facilities in the Akron/Canton region
.

This role is responsible for developing strong relationships with hospitals, physicians, managed care organizations, and community partners while ensuring an efficient referral-to-admission process. The Regional Director will collaborate closely with facility administrators, admissions teams, and corporate leadership to drive occupancy, optimize payer mix, and expand market presence.

The ideal candidate is a strategic healthcare sales leader with experience in post-acute care, skilled nursing, or healthcare admissions
, who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about building partnerships that support patient transitions and facility growth.

Key Responsibilities Business Development & Market Growth
  • Develop and maintain referral relationships with physicians, hospitals, case managers, discharge planners, and managed care organizations
    .

  • Drive census growth and referral volume across assigned facilities.

  • Identify market opportunities and develop strategic plans to increase referrals and admissions.

  • Monitor local market trends, competitors, pricing, and referral patterns to inform growth strategies.

  • Establish strong relationships with Medical Directors and key physician partners to support referral development.

  • Represent the organization at community events, healthcare networking opportunities, and industry meetings.

Admissions & Referral Management
  • Oversee and support the referral-to-admission process to ensure timely response and efficient patient placement.

  • Collaborate with Admissions Directors and facility teams to ensure rapid referral response and conversion to admissions.

  • Evaluate potential residents for clinical appropriateness and placement within facilities.

  • Ensure proper documentation, insurance verification, and authorization processes are completed efficiently.

  • Maintain visibility on all referral activity and admission status across the region.

  • Identify and remove barriers to admissions and work with facility leadership to resolve challenges.

Team Leadership & Collaboration
  • Provide guidance, training, and support to facility admissions and marketing teams
    .

  • Assist with hiring, onboarding, and performance development of business development and admissions staff.

  • Work collaboratively with Administrators, Operations leadership, and Corporate Business Development to achieve regional goals.

  • Support facility-level sales and marketing initiatives.

Data, Reporting & Strategy
  • Track and analyze census, referral activity, payer mix, and conversion metrics
    .

  • Develop and implement quarterly marketing and business development plans
    .

  • Maintain accurate referral tracking and provide regular reporting on sales activity, trends, and outcomes.

  • Use data insights to identify opportunities for growth and improvement in admissions processes.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred (Healthcare Administration, Business, or related field)

  • 5+ years of healthcare sales, admissions, or business development experience (post-acute, skilled nursing, or hospital preferred)

  • Previous experience working with hospital discharge planners, case managers, and referral networks

  • Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, managed care, and insurance authorization processes

  • Licensed Nurse (RN/LPN) preferred but not required

  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills

  • Proven ability to drive census growth and develop referral networks

  • Strong organizational and analytical skills

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

  • Ability to travel within the assigned region
