Full-time, 32 hours

Akron, OH

Salary range: $26.18 - $31.41 per hour

Provides police protection and enforcement of state and local laws, hospital policies, procedures, rules and regulations.

  Education Required:
  
  High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Experience & Training
  
  Required:
  • Successful completion of Ohio Peace Officer Basic Training Academy (OPOTA).
  • Eligibility to hold and maintain a police commission in Ohio per ORC 4973.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older at time of hire.
  • Valid Ohio driver's license and meet Summa Fleet Insurance Standards.
  • Active current certifications in firearms to department and OPOTA standard.
  • Active current Conducted Electrical Weapon certification to department standards.
  • Honorable discharge from military service can substitute for related work experience.
  • Completion of coursework in higher education in related field can substitute for some or all required experience.

  Qualifications:
  • Ability to perform functions requiring running, walking, physical restraint of others.
  • Exposure to inclement weather.
  • Effective communication with visitors, staff, patients and other law enforcement representatives.
  • Maintain proficiency with firearms and self-defense techniques.
  • Handle incidents confidentially, displaying compassion.
  • Required to carry firearm and Conducted Electrical Weapon within scope of duties.
  • Interact effectively with populations of patients/customers, understanding their needs for self-respect and dignity.
  • Complete Non‑Violent Crisis Intervention training within first six months and annually thereafter.
• Level of Physical Demands:
  Heavy – exerts 50‑100 pounds occasionally, 25‑50 frequently, and 10‑20 continuously to move objects.
