Position SummaryA Sr. Locate Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of construction and utility projects. This role uses advanced technology to identify underground utilities such as gas lines, water pipes, and electrical cables. By accurately mapping these utilities, the Sr. Locate Technician helps prevent accidents and ensures that projects proceed smoothly. This role requires attention to detail and a strong understanding of the equipment used in locating services.
The Sr. Locate Technician operates sophisticated equipment and software to detect and mark the location of underground utilities. They work closely with construction teams, utility companies and homeowners to provide precise information. This information helps avoid damaging critical infrastructure during excavation. The Sr. Locate Technician must follow strict safety protocols and maintain accurate records of their findings. This role is essential for maintaining the integrity of public utilities and ensuring the safety of workers on the job site.
Responsibilities- Use mechanical/technical equipment to accurately locate underground facilities such as telephone lines, electrical power lines, cable television lines, gas lines, fiber optic lines, water lines, and sewer lines.
- Communicate and interact daily with managers, excavation crews, and homeowners to discuss locate issues.
- Interpret job order tickets and respond appropriately to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Read maps and blueprints to ensure accurate location of utilities.
- Determine efficient routes to each location in rural and urban areas.
- Remove and replace manhole lids.
- Requires 1-2 years locate experience.
- Ability to drive local roads, work outdoors, and to operate independently.
- Ability to perform locate duties before or after normal business hours when on call.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
- Ability to access restricted and/or controlled areas (such as federal installations).
- Strong work ethic.
- Ability to use computer to complete documentation and receive and send email.
- Ability to lift, push, and pull at least 50 pounds.
- Ability to walk all types of terrain (grass, ditches, wooded areas, gravel, etc.) in and around construction zones and residential, commercial, industrial, rural areas in all types of weather conditions (rain, snow, cold, heat, etc.). May require walking up to 5 miles in one day, several times a week.

- Exposure to outdoor elements, construction sites, and traffic hazards.
- Occasional lifting of equipment up to 50 lbs.
