We are seeking a Senior Field Services Technician to lead critical field operations that keep electrical power systems safe, reliable, and performing at their best. The purpose of this position is to safely and productively lead and complete field assignments involving installation, repair, oil processing, and maintenance of energized and de-energized transformers in high‑voltage substations.
This role plays a direct part in ensuring the reliability and life extension of critical electrical infrastructure that powers homes, hospitals, businesses, and entire communities. Every project completed contributes to safer systems, reduced downtime, and improved operational continuity for customers who depend on uninterrupted power.
You will serve as a technical leader in the field—guiding crews, ensuring quality execution, modeling safety behaviors, and representing SDMyers to customers in complex and high‑impact environments.
Key Responsibilities- Field Leadership: Lead or support field crews to safely execute transformer service projects, ensuring quality, efficiency, and adherence to scope.
- Transformer Service & Oil Processing: Perform oil reclamation, hot oil cleaning, re‑inhibiting, vacuum/retro filling, energized processing, and assist with transformer repairs and LTC work.
- Technical Work: Support or perform electrical testing (when certified), obtain accurate oil samples, and use instrumentation such as vacuum and dew point measurement tools.
- Equipment & Installations: Install EP products (Dry Max®, Sample Safe®, IR windows) and perform minor repairs on field equipment.
- Safety & Compliance: Follow all safety protocols (LOTO, confined space, electrical safety), maintain accurate documentation, and ensure vehicle and equipment standards.
- Customer & Team Interaction: Provide professional customer service, communicate effectively in the field, and maintain strong working relationships with customers and team members.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- 2–5 years of experience in transformer field service, electrical maintenance, or related industrial work
- Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude
- Knowledge of electrical safety practices, LOTO, and confined space procedures
- Ability to interpret basic lab data and support field testing
- Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills
- Valid CDL with clean driving record (must be insurable)
- Ability to travel frequently, including overnight and extended assignments
- High integrity, accountability, and strong work ethic
- Ability to work independently and lead in the field
- Strong communication and customer relationship skills
- Willingness to learn through SOPs and mentorship
- Outdoor and industrial environments (utilities, chemical plants, steel facilities)
- Exposure to energized electrical substation environments
- Frequent travel via truck, van, and occasional air
- Standing, walking, climbing, lifting, and carrying equipment
- Driving for extended periods
- Working in confined spaces and varied weather conditions
- Stooping, crouching, and hands‑on mechanical work
