Position: APS INVESTIGATOR

General Overview

Under general supervision, investigates complaints of abuse, neglect, or exploitation of adults in accordance with the ORC; protects adults’ interests; coordinates efforts with county prosecutor’s office and probate court; completes assessments, case plans, and summaries; mobilizes resources; provides advocacy and interpretation of legislation and due process; maintains case files. Performs other related duties as required.

Required Qualifications

Any combination of training and work experience which indicates possession of the skills, knowledge and abilities listed below. Bachelor’s degree in social work, counseling, or other related social science/behavioral science discipline, plus two (2) years social services experience, or equivalent combination of training and/or experience.

Job Duties
  • Investigates complaints of abuse, neglect, or exploitation of eligible adults
  • Conducts home visits in regular and emergency situations
  • Coordinates protective orders with courts
  • Consults with necessary persons for client assessments and recommendations
  • Informs client of legal rights
  • Establishes need for involuntary intervention (e.g., guardianship, emergency or routine protective orders, restraining orders)
  • Testifies at hearings (e.g., guardianship, criminal, civil)
  • Maintains and monitors ongoing caseload
  • Provides intensive counseling to clients (individual or group basis)
  • Counsels significant others (e.g., family and friends)
  • Establishes and maintains case records and data; completes case plans and investigative summaries
  • Attends staff meetings, workshops, and training sessions
  • Other duties as assigned
Work Environment

Work is performed in an office environment and employee will regularly be exposed to normal hazards associated with an office environment. The employee may experience a client’s anger and frustration, and close contact is possible in an unhealthy environment. While performing the duties of this position, the employee may be required to travel to and access the various assigned work sites, other offices and agencies, homes and institutions.

Physical

Demands

Job is physically comfortable. Typically requires sitting, walking, standing, bending, keying, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions; use hands to finger, handle, or feel. May occasionally be required to reach with hands and arms and climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and peripheral vision.

Work Hours

Monday – Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm.
Some evening and weekend hours will be required.
