Position Summary

Responsible for designing, implementing, and facilitating social, cultural, recreational, and academic activities for children and parents in a domestic violence shelter setting using the Trauma Informed Care model.

Job Description Required Education, Experience and Qualifications
  • Degree in social work, education, or related field preferred or one year experience working with youth.
  • Experience with trauma-informed care and curriculum development preferred.
  • Maintain valid Ohio driver’s license and ability to meet agency requirements for driving insurability.
  • Must be able to meet agency requirements for criminal background check (Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations and Federal Bureau of Investigations).
Role and Responsibilities
  • Provide advocacy, crisis intervention, referrals, safety planning, and follow-ups for caregivers and children.
  • Conduct intakes to assess family needs, develop safety plans, and promote healthy parenting techniques.
  • Collaborate with caregivers’ case managers and community agencies to coordinate services.
  • Support families through transportation arrangements, school enrollment assistance, and shelter operations.
  • Facilitate caregiver/child groups and organize events such as birthday parties and baby showers.
  • Plan and lead activities for children and families while providing child monitoring during meetings.
  • Maintain documentation and prepare monthly reports per policy.
  • Represent the agency in community activities.
  • Always adhere to Service Excellence standards.
  • Complies with agency policies and procedures, federal and state requirements, CARF standards, and educational/certification/registry requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Physical demands:
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects; reach with hands and arms; step up and down; stoop, kneel, crouch; talk, hear and drive. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Work environment:
    This position will be in a facility with victims of domestic violence or sexual assault. In addition to interaction with the survivors, the employee may have interactions with families of these individuals, the assailants and law enforcement.

  • Saturday and Sunday, 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM
Additional Qualifications
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, particularly with diverse populations.
  • Computer skills including, but not limited to, Microsoft Word and Excel.
