Responsibilities
- Work alone during evening or night-time hours and on weekends, keeping City streets and expressways free of hazards to vehicular traffic.
- Operate a pick‑up truck equipped with tools such as axe, spud bar, saws, wrenches, lights, and barricades; remove hazards, secure open manholes or construction sites that have been vandalized, and respond promptly to traffic emergencies.
- Use front‑end loader and dump truck to haul and spread materials such as sand, salt, and cinders; operate heavy trucks with salt spreader and plow attachments for snow removal and ice control.
- Maintain two‑way radio contact with the Sewer Maintenance dispatcher while traveling in vehicle.
- Respond to work orders and instructions received via e‑mail, keeping accurate records of work activity.
- Minimum one year of paid experience at the semi‑skilled laborer level in highway maintenance operations.
- Possession of a valid State of Ohio Class B commercial driver’s license with no air‑brake restriction.
- Knowledge of the uses and placement of lights and barricades on City streets and highways, and of the tools and equipment used for maintenance and emergency purposes.
- Ability to read, write, understand, and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to utilize e‑mail for work‑order communication and maintain accurate records.
- Ability to work effectively under emergency or heavy‑traffic conditions and to make independent decisions regarding time, materials, and equipment usage.
- Skill in operating motor vehicles and moderately complex highway maintenance automotive equipment.
