Position Summary
Summer Conference Coordinators (SCC) prepare residence halls for incoming conferences, participate in room and building inspections before and after each camp, facilitate guest check‑in and check‑out, and provide resources and referrals to conference participants. SCCs are one of the first points of contact for campers as they arrive on campus; a pleasant, professional demeanor is essential. Conference bills are generated based on information provided by the SCC;
accuracy and clarity of that information are required.
- Stay on campus in the assigned hall when on duty as necessary.
- Work alone or as part of a team, operating the hall desk.
- Assist in preparing conference check‑in procedures and perform other administrative tasks prior to conference arrivals.
- Operate the hall desk during the conference: greet guests, perform check‑ins and check‑outs, maintain hall security, provide information, and facilitate other services.
- Create informational signs and bulletin boards.
- Maintain key and CBORD card inventory for the assigned hall.
- Assist with minor cleaning and repairs throughout the building.
- Call appropriate personnel when maintenance, vending, or laundry problems arise and submit maintenance work orders as necessary.
- Serve in a 24‑hour on‑call rotation with other SCCs.
- Work some late evenings, early mornings, long hours, and weekends as required by summer conferences.
- Work schedules vary weekly and are established about one week in advance.
- Perform other duties assigned by the Summer Conference Admin, Staffing Coordinator, or Operations Coordinator.
- Be an enrolled student at a UW System school with good conduct standing at UWSP and a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
- Have general knowledge of Housing and Residence Life, the campus, and the Stevens Point community.
- Be able to work well with people and possess good leadership, communication, organizational, and time‑management skills.
- Demonstrate the ability to work independently of a supervisor.
Each SCC may be allowed up to eight (8) days off during the summer, though not necessarily consecutively. Time off must be requested in writing and approved by the supervisor at least two weeks in advance. Requests for time off may or may not be approved, depending on the conference schedule. No time off is expected during the month of August;
specific days off needed in August must be disclosed prior to signing the employment contract.
Compensation starts at $12.00 per hour and may include merit and longevity bonuses based on previous summer Housing and Residence Life experience. Free single‑bedroom housing in summer hall (Suites @201) is offered to all summer staff while on contract; SCCs are required to live on campus in the summer. About twenty (20) hours per week is the norm. Forty (40) hours per week is not guaranteed but additional hours may be available.
SCC may take summer classes as long as 20 hours per week are maintained. Full‑time Housing and Residence Life employees may not work for another UWSP department concurrently.
