Purpose of the Position
:
Under general supervision, the Trade Compliance & Special Programs Coordinator is responsible for managing import related compliance activities, ensuring adherence to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations, trade laws, and internal company policies. This role also leads the end to end administration of Special Programs (e.g. IAO Section 232 request process), including submission, tracking, documentation control, and stakeholder communication. The position works cross functionally with Supply Chain, Purchasing, Legal, and Finance to minimize duty exposure, optimize trade compliance, and mitigate regulatory risk.
The area of responsibility covers all business lines within the legal entity, including service parts.
- Customs Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with U.S. import regulations, including CBP, HTS classification, valuation, country of origin, and admissibility requirements.
- Assign and maintain accurate Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classifications for imported products.
- Review commercial documents (commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading) prior to customs entry to confirm accuracy and compliance.
- Support internal audits and assessments related to customs activities, maintaining proper control documentation.
- Monitor changes in customs regulations, trade agreements, tariff measures, and participate in relevant compliance reviews.
- Coordinate with customs brokers to ensure correct and timely filing of import entries.
- Special Programs (e.g. IAO Section 232 Process) Management
- Serve as the primary owner of the IAO Section 232 tariff exclusion process.
- Prepare and submit Section 232 IAO requests, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and alignment with internal stakeholders.
- Track all active Section 232 statuses including supplier recovery using internal systems or tracking tools.
- Communicate status updates, and outcome impacts to internal stakeholders such as Purchasing, Finance, and Logistics.
- Store and maintain the official documentation for all Section 232 requests, and approvals.
- Evaluate new opportunities for Section 232 filings based on material usage, import trends, and tariff exposure.
