What you will be doing

Responsible for supervising the production of biomass at a Southeast U.S. manufacturing facility, managing a crew of 8–12 operators on a rotating 12‑hour shift pattern, performing maintenance activities, supporting administrative functions, and providing supervision to operations personnel.

Core Responsibilities and Duties
  • Manage a crew of 8–12 operators on a rotating 12‑hour shift pattern.
  • Create a safety culture that believes all incidents and occupational illnesses can be prevented.
  • Support and implement the Drax Safety culture and Drax Biomass policies.
  • Learn and thoroughly understand the “System Safety Rules” and related safety documents.
  • Act as a Senior Authorized Person, ensuring adequate precautions for “Safety from the System” during work.
  • Perform specific roles and duties under the DBI System Safety Rules (SSR).
  • Manage operations and manufacturing processes of producing, handling, and storing biomass at the facility.
  • Continuously seek and implement improvements to plant productivity and efficiency without compromising product quality, safety, or environment.
  • Ensure biomass production meets manufacturing and quality specifications.
  • Communicate and support the philosophy of the Continuous Improvement Process.
  • Oversee maintenance activities as a Senior Authorized Person on pumps, valves, fans, piping systems, compressors, conveying systems, etc. within the “System”.
  • Be responsible and accountable for plant and equipment within the “System”.
  • Identify and assess all foreseeable risks, implementing control measures to an acceptable level.
  • Be trained and required to be a “1st Responder” for the facility.
  • Implement housekeeping standards to minimize hazards and eliminate OSHA recordable and lost‑time injuries.
  • Develop training manuals and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Schedule and maintain training records for all employees on the crew.
  • Communicate company expectations, business goals, and organizational issues to crew members.
  • Oversee completion of operator logs and records for plant inspections, adjustments, and operating parameters.
  • Provide recommendations regarding hiring and discipline of employees on the crew; participate in interview process for operator roles.
  • Review crew performance and provide feedback.
  • Recommend promotions and/or pay increases based on performance.
  • Respond to crew complaints and direct them to appropriate personnel such as the Manager and/or Human Resources Manager.
  • Make sound judgments on behalf of the business in regular situations.
  • Ensure crew maintains housekeeping to Drax Biomass standards.
  • Work effectively within a self‑directed team framework.
  • Demonstrate interpersonal skills that enhance teamwork and problem solving.
  • Work flexible hours, including longer hours, weekends, and holidays in a noisy industrial environment.
  • Perform repetitive and physically demanding tasks for extended periods (lifting, walking, working at heights, climbing, pushing, twisting, stooping).
Who You Are
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Technical degree preferred.
  • 2+ years of industrial maintenance experience.
  • Ability to adapt to working within a team or lone‑working environment with minimal supervision.
  • Professional attitude and ability to work well with others.
  • Promotion of a safe working environment and adherence to all workplace and job safety procedures.
  • Willingness to work a shift that includes weekends, nights, and holidays.
