Assistant Professor, Communication

The Department of Communication invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Communication, specializing in news broadcast production and broadcast journalism. This tenure‑track position includes a 3:4 or 4:3 teaching load and 9 months of full‑time service. The role involves teaching undergraduate media production courses and requires competencies in broadcast journalism, broadcast news studio production, multimedia production of news, and proficiency with contemporary media business models.

The candidate will also be expected to teach creative and experiential courses in broadcast news and media production where possible. The ideal candidate’s research agenda should align well with and inform the instructional focus of the program.

Quality teaching will be the successful candidate’s primary responsibility, while also performing scholarship and/or creative production aligned with the position, and providing service to the department, supporting student media and contributing to curriculum development and innovation as we sustain and build upon the 2023 reaccreditation.

• All applicants must hold a PhD in Mass Communication or another related field (ABD’s will be considered).

• 3-5 years of industry experience in broadcast journalism and/or news production.
• Evidence of quality prior teaching at the undergraduate level.
• Philosophical commitment to digital, technological, and disciplinary integration.
• Understanding and/or experience with ACEJMC accreditation.

The position has an anticipated start date of August 1, 2026.
