JOB TITLE

Assistant Principal

JOB GOAL

To assist the principal in carrying out instructional and administrative duties of the school and serve in areas as directed by the Principal.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Valid Alabama Education Leadership Certificate
  • Valid Alabama Education Certification for either the elementary or secondary level.
  • At least three years of successful experience as a classroom teacher.
  • Such alternatives or additional qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Instructional Leadership

    • Assist with the overall leadership and vision for academic excellence at the High School level.
    • Assist with the development, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum and instructional programs aligned to state standards.
    • Monitor student achievement and lead school improvement initiatives focused on academic growth and readiness for the High School.
    • Promote high expectations for teaching and learning across all content areas.
  • Staff Supervision and Development

    • Assist the Principal to recruit, hire, supervise, and evaluate certified and classified staff.
    • Conduct classroom observations and provide constructive feedback focused on high school grades instructional best practices.
    • Support ongoing professional development in adolescent learning, engagement, and instructional strategies.
    • Foster a collaborative and positive work environment.
  • School Operations and Management

    • Assist Principal to oversee daily school operations and building management.
    • Assist Principal to ensure proper maintenance of facilities and campus safety.
    • Coordinate scheduling, staffing, and resource allocation to support effective instruction and intervention.
  • Student Discipline and School Climate

    • Enforce the student code of conduct fairly and consistently.
    • Promote a safe, structured, and respectful learning environment appropriate for adolescent students.
    • Address student behavioral concerns using positive behavior supports and restorative practices when appropriate.
    • Support student attendance initiatives and early intervention strategies.
  • Communication and Community Relations

    • Maintain open communication with students, parents, staff, and community members.
    • Build positive relationships with families and community partners.
    • Assist the Principal to lead parent meetings, staff meetings, and school events.
  • Policy Implementation and Compliance

    • Ensure compliance with district, state, and federal regulations.
    • Implement board policies and district initiatives.
    • Maintain accurate records and required reports.
  • Data Analysis and Accountability

    • Analyze student performance data to guide instructional decisions and targeted interventions.
    • Assist the Principal to develop and monitor school improvement plans.
    • Ensure accountability measures are met and students are prepared for High School success.
  • Extracurricular and Co-Curricular Oversight

    • Supervise and support athletics, clubs, and extracurricular programs appropriate for High School students.
    • Encourage student participation and school engagement.
    • Promote a well-rounded High School educational experience.
  • Leadership and Professional Responsibilities

    • Model professionalism, integrity, and ethical leadership.
    • Participate in district leadership meetings and professional organizations.
    • Engage in continuous professional growth.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
  • EVALUATION

    Performance evaluation shall be in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policies and administrative procedures and guidelines.
