Position: High School Assistant Principal (PHS)

High School Assistant Principal

Reports To: Principal

FLSA Designation: Exempt

Job Goal: To assist the principal in overall administration of the school by providing educational leadership in a manner which will be conducive to the maximum educational growth and development of the students.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum of a master’s degree with major in education administration/instructional leadership from an accredited institution
  • Must have a valid Alabama Certification in Educational Administration, Educational Leadership, or Educational Supervision.
  • Must have a minimum of three (3) full years of satisfactory teaching experience.

  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of parents, students, and faculty.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from faculty, parents, students, and the public.
  • Knowledge of state and federal education laws, regulations and procedures related to instructional services including litigation; thorough knowledge of the practices, methods, and techniques used in the administration and supervision of all programs in the school; and the ability to work independently.
  • Familiar with computers, email, internet, and software such as the Microsoft Office and technology relative to instruction and administration.
  • Ability to identify and define complex problems and situations, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to stand, stoop, kneel, lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, ability to focus, and peripheral vision.
Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions

The following duties are normal for this job and are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned or due to the absence of the school principal.

Curriculum
  • Assists the principal with visiting classrooms, conferring with teachers, giving leadership in curriculum improvement, and assisting with the selection and use of instructional materials.
  • Assists the principal with evaluating the instructional techniques of the teaching staff.
  • Assists in the school co-curricular programs and all activities and programs that are the outgrowth of the school curriculum.
  • Student Management
  • Assists in the organization, implementation and oversight of a fair, consistent system of student discipline.
  • Assists the principal in assuming responsibility for scheduling.
  • Assists the principal with scheduling and assigning students for appropriate placement for instruction and services.
  • Assists in communicating with parents and guardians and keeping parents and guardians informed of attendance and behavior problems of their students.
  • Assists in the coordination of athletic, non-athletic, co-curricular, and extracurricular transportation needs. Assists with the supervision of after school activities.
  • Attend meetings of the PTA or PTO, etc. as requested beyond the regular workday.
  • Other Essential Functions
  • Maintain highest level of security and confidentiality regarding any and all information gleaned in day-to-day activities regarding students and staff personally identifiable information, according to FERPA and Blount County Security Use guidelines as well as any and all state and federal statutes.
  • Assists in interpreting and implementing federal and state laws and state and local board policies.
  • Assists in the design and implementation of the provision for building safety and security, including fire, severe weather, and crisis management plans.
  • Assists in supervising, observing and evaluating teachers and staff.
  • Assists the principal in personnel functions.
  • Assists in providing professional growth for staff.
  • Assists the principal in securing, maintaining, and managing material resources.
  • Assists in preparing and administering the school budget and supervising school finances.
  • Assists in the supervision of the maintenance of school buildings, grounds, and equipment. Regularly inspects buildings…
