Qualifications- Must comply with all employment criteria legally established by the Lee County Board of Education.
- Must hold a valid Alabama Professional Educator Certificate.
- Good understanding of child development, student behavior, and instructional methods and techniques.
- Ability to learn new methods and techniques.
- Ability to work harmoniously with instructional staff and provide broad assistance.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Good understanding of Lee County’s District Disciplinary Policies and Procedures.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong ability to work with diverse populations.
- Must meet the suitability criteria for employment as required by the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. .
- Alternatives to these qualifications may be considered as appropriate by the Board.
Upon offer of employment, employees must submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the federal Bureau of Investigation (HB 402 ACT 99-361).
Job GoalsSupervise students assigned to in‑school suspension for disciplinary reasons and help students learn subject matter and skills that contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible individuals.
Essential Duties- Attend on a regular and predictable basis.
- Complete assigned tasks safely and with constant alertness.
- Uphold Board policies, including the anti‑harassment program.
- Work cooperatively with students, teachers, staff, supervisors, and the public.
- Work efficiently under time and productivity standards.
- Report for duty fifteen minutes before school opening and remain fifteen minutes after closing.
- Meet and instruct assigned classes at designated times and locations.
- Oversee the ISS room to ensure a safe, orderly, zero‑tolerance environment.
- Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within available resources and appropriate to student interests and maturity.
- Establish and maintain discipline and assist staff in maintaining school‑wide discipline.
- Collaborate with staff on planning school activities, instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
- Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
- Participate in extracurricular activities as agreed by faculty and administration.
- Attend and participate regularly in faculty meetings.
- Take reasonable precautions to protect students and safeguard equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintain a professional, cooperative relationship with students, parents, and the community.
- Promote good public relations for the school and school system.
- Maintain and improve professional competence.
- Implement positive behavior intervention strategies (PBIS) and help students reflect on actions that led to suspension.
- Ensure an atmosphere where students remain seated and silent during in‑school suspension periods.
- Assist in using in‑school suspension as an effective preventative disciplinary technique.
- Assist students with homework or instructional assignments as needed.
- Perform other assignments deemed necessary by the principal to support classroom efficiency and effectiveness.
May involve lifting up to 20-25 pounds. Requires good vision and the ability to communicate effectively in English. Tasks include standing, walking, sitting, using hands, reaching, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling as needed.
Environmental DemandsWork may involve exposure to various diseases and illnesses, weather conditions, heating/air‑conditioning, chemicals, and moderate noise levels.
EmploymentFull‑time, nine‑month contract (187 days) with salary range $48,629–$96,819 per year based on board‑approved schedule.
EvaluationPerformance evaluated per the Board’s policy on evaluation of Professional Personnel.
