Location: Sherwood Park

This position is primarily responsible for teaching and orienting students to the College. Assist students with program planning, transfer information, course selections and registration.

Salary

Appropriate placement on ACCS Salary Schedule E3, Grade 4: $39,759 - $57,251. Salary within this range is determined by your documented years of full-time related work experience.

Work Hours

Monday through Thursday, 7:45 a.m.

- 5:15 p.m.;
Friday 7:45 a.m.

- 11:45 a.m.

Application Materials

Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications and must submit a complete application packet through the online application system to be considered. A complete application consists of the following:

Responsibilities
  • Plan Freshman Seminar programs for the purpose of orienting new students to college.
  • Teach Freshman Seminar classes each semester to include distance learning courses.
  • Plan and implement effective orientation strategies to encourage student persistence.
  • Counsel/advise new, returning and current students each semester through personal appointments, telephone conversations, and/or written correspondence (including but not limited to e-mail) in the Advising Center.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the Alabama Transfers, Banner, Canvas, Degree Works, and other related software and assist students in its use.
  • Assist with the development of Freshman Seminar curriculum.
  • Review the Calhoun Catalog annually to become familiar with changes affecting prospective and current student enrollments.
  • Maintain knowledge of financial aid opportunities for prospective and current students.
  • Maintain a general knowledge of other college policies and procedures including academic support, and student activities.
  • Serve as an advising resource during registrations.
  • Identify ways to measure the effectiveness of orientation events, and establish a system of tracking outcomes.
  • Seek out, attend, and present at related professional development conferences or events.
  • Maintain a positive attitude that contributes to a professional, team-centered environment.
  • Perform all duties with professionalism.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications
  • A minimum of Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution is required
    .
  • Skills in making effective public oral presentations to small groups, and/or large audiences are required
    .
  • Skills in advising, guiding or counseling individuals and/or groups are required
    .
  • Documented experience in the use of current educational technologies in the classroom including word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software (e.g. Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Blackboard, etc.) is required
    .
  • Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate through their experiences and accomplishments.

    Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of the Calhoun Community College Catalog, admissions policies and procedures, general financial aid information, and college departments.
  • Knowledge of orientation and counseling strategies.
  • Ability to plan, organize, promote, and execute student orientation-related activities.
  • Ability to use or learn to use network software and university articulation software (STARS) on a PC.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written form with students, families, and college personnel.
  • Ability to take direction and work independently without direct supervision.
  • Ability to drive a personal vehicle, state-owned vehicle, or rented vehicle in the performance of assigned duties.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable.
  • Must be sensitive to the importance of treating all admission/financial aid information of applicants with the utmost confidentiality.
