Job Description

Position: Secondary Education Teacher – English Language Arts Teacher (Loachapoka High School)

Salary: $48,629 – $96,819 per year

Job Type: Full‑time, nine‑month contract (187 days)

Reports to: Principal

Starting Date: Jul 30, 2026

Job Goals

Help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible men and women.

Qualifications
  • Must comply with all employment criteria established by the Lee County Board of Education.
  • Hold an Alabama Professional Educator Certificate.
  • Meet the suitability criteria under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002‑457.
  • Possess a demonstrated aptitude for completing assigned tasks effectively.
  • Other qualifications as deemed appropriate by the Board.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Attend work regularly, arriving 15 minutes before school opens and remaining 15 minutes after close.
  • Teach assigned classes at designated times and locations.
  • Develop a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
  • Maintain appropriate discipline and assist in school‑wide discipline efforts.
  • Prepare for classes, providing evidence of preparation upon request.
  • Maintain accurate records as required by law, board policy, and regulations.
  • Evaluate student progress regularly according to established procedures.
  • Seek specialist assistance and make referrals as needed.
  • Protect students and safeguard equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Be available for student and parent communication outside instructional hours as agreed.
  • Collaborate with staff on school activities, instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
  • Assist in selecting instructional materials.
  • Participate in extracurricular activities as agreed.
  • Attend faculty meetings regularly.
  • Maintain professional relationships with parents and community.
  • Promote good public relations for the schools and the system.
  • Improve professional competence.
  • Perform other related duties as requested by the principal.
Essential Physical and Environmental Demands

Frequently lift/move up to 20 pounds; occasionally 25 pounds. Required vision: close, distance, depth perception, focus adjustment. Physical actions include standing, walking, sitting, reaching, climbing, and balancing. Environmental exposures include disease, weather, chemicals, and moderate noise.

Background Check

Upon offer, employees must submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
