Reporting Authority: Divisional Chair / Associate Dean / Dean, School of Career and Technical Education

The Machine Tool Technology Instructor shall perform the duties as specified in conformity with the policies established by the Alabama Community College System and the Bishop State Community College Faculty and Staff Handbook.

Instruction & Student Support
  • Teach 15-18 credit hours per semester and/or the equivalent in non‑credit or combined credit/non‑credit offerings.
  • Provide effective classroom and laboratory instruction within the assigned credentialed area.
  • Develop and maintain course syllabi, instructional materials, and evaluation tools.
  • Recruit, advise, and support students from enrollment through program completion.
  • Evaluate student progress using institutional and departmental criteria; maintain accurate class records (grades, attendance, withdrawals, drops).
  • Advise students on academic and career pathways; promote student leadership and enrichment activities.
Curriculum & Program Development
  • Review and update curriculum regularly to align with current industry standards and workforce needs.
  • Develop and teach web‑based and technology‑enhanced courses.
  • Establish and conduct industry advisory committee meetings (minimum twice annually) and maintain records to support program evaluation, curriculum improvements, and training equipment selection.
  • Ensure program alignment with credentialing and/or certification standards (e.g., NCCER, NIMS, NC3).
Safety & Facility Management
  • Ensure the safety of students, staff, and visitors in all instructional areas.
  • Maintain and inspect safety equipment (eyewash stations, fire extinguishers).
  • Maintain organization, cleanliness and operational readiness of classrooms, labs, tools, and equipment.
Technology & Industry Expertise
  • Demonstrated competency in educational technologies, learning management systems, and common productivity software (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge and experience in
    • Programming various CNC machine tool brands.
    • CAD/CAM software applications.
    • Additive manufacturing / 3D printing technologies.
    • Multi‑skilled crafts and multiple types of machining equipment.
    • Computer‑integrated manufacturing including PLCs, robotics, and instrumentation.
    • Industrial quality, safety, health and environmental practices.
    • Maintenance and production concepts (preventive/predictive maintenance, Lean Manufacturing).
    • Maintenance inspection/testing methods (electrical testing, thermography, non‑destructive examination).
Partnerships & Community Engagement
  • Promote and maintain positive relationships with regional businesses, industries, and agencies.
  • Support recruitment and job placement of program completers.
  • Participate in and support professional organizations such as SkillsUSA to foster leadership and skill attainment.
  • Establish and sustain partnerships with business and industry entities and four‑year institutions.
Professional Responsibilities
  • Maintain and enhance professional competency through ongoing learning and skill development.
  • Participate in in‑service training, institutional events, and committee work as assigned.
  • Provide administrative support, including preparation of reports, course outlines, and catalog materials.
  • Adhere to institutional policies and procedures as outlined in official handbooks and board policy manuals.
  • Initiate and support grant activities aligned with program goals.
  • Maintain punctuality, professional conduct, and assigned office hours.

  • Proven experience managing personnel, equipment, laboratories, and facilities.
  • Demonstrated expertise in web‑based course development and delivery.
  • Ability to adapt curriculum and instruction to meet evolving industry needs.

Other Responsibilities
  • Respond promptly and professionally to inquiries regarding assigned programs, and direct inquiries to appropriate departments or personnel as needed.
