POSITION SUMMARY
The Deputy Director supports the mission and vision of the Anthony J. Rane Center for Leadership by assisting in the design, delivery, and management of leadership and character programs for student assessment development. This position will also support the center's military pathway, career development, academic, and extracurricular programs. This position will also lead projects assigned by either the Director and/or the Commandant.
The Director may assign and balance responsibilities in line with institutional priorities and the Deputy’s experience. This Deputy position focuses on operational, logistical, and administrative activities for the center.
The Deputy, for short, is focused on operational and support requirements for the Center for Leadership. The Deputy’s role enables the success of the center’s leadership, education, training, and character development programs through the execution of existing programs, the implementation of new programs, and the exploration of future programs.
MISSIONAdvance leadership education, training, and character development through curricular, co-curricular, and extra-curricular programs, including approved AAS degrees. Provide civilian career information, career path exploration, and soft skills development.
DEPUTY IN RELATION TO MISSIONProvides operational, logistical, and administrative support that enables the center to fulfill its responsibility to educate, train, develop, and mentor cadets, preparing them for careers in the military, public service, and civilian careers.
1. Cadet Development & Assessment- Assist in the construction and execution of the Cadet Development System to advance leadership and Character Development.
- Assist in tracking assessment strategies and administrative support used for leadership and character development across:
- The Cadet Assessment Program
- The Honor & Respect Character Education Program / Cadet Development System
- The Service-Learning Program The Leadership Conference Program
- Provide administrative and operational support to the Cadet Honor Council and Leaders Club.
- Coordinate scheduling and logistics for the Distinguished Guest Speaker Program.
- Support planning and execution of small-group dilemma discussion seminars and Honor Education programming.
- Utilize, improve, and implement systems that contribute toward the center’s responsibilities and these programs.
- Facilitate guest speaker events and other visitors.
- Support and track expansion and modification projects related to the Anthony J. Rane Leadership Training Complex, including the leadership reaction course (LRC), military obstacle course, and rappel tower.
- Coordinate use, maintenance, and management of the A.J. Rane Leadership Training Complex.
- Serve as the primary mentor/coordinator for cadets enrolled in Air Force ROTC and the Marine Corps Platoon Leaders Class (PLC). This includes tracking cadet progress with the respective programs, academic standing, facilitating focused physical training programs, and forging strong collaborative relationships with the sponsoring entities e.g., Det 10 Air Force ROTC at University of Alabama and the Marine Corps Officer Selection Officer in Tuscaloosa, AL.
- Focus on the backside, administrative, and support functions that allow both the Director and the career program (Aviation and Fire & EMS) managers to focus on their core responsibilities.
- Facilitate success for MMI’s Aim High Flight Academy in concert with U.S. Air Force and MMI’s contractor(s).
- Support and coordinate with the Aviation AAS and Fire & EMS AAS Managers as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director or executive leadership.
- Minimum 10 years of military experience or equivalent U.S. civil service positions, or Law Enforcement, Fire/EMS that includes experience working with the military (may be waived with substantial relevant qualifications).
