Job DescriptionMUSIC TEACHER (INSTRUMENTAL OR VOCAL)
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must comply with all employment criteria legally established by the Lee County Board of Education.
- Must hold an appropriate Alabama Professional Educator Certificate.
- Demonstrated aptitude for successful completion of the assigned task.
- Must meet the suitability criteria for employment as required by the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. .

REPORTS TO: Principal
JOB GOALS: To help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible men and women.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Applicable to All Employees:
- Attend on a regular and predictable basis.
- Complete assigned tasks in a safe manner and in a constant state of alertness.
- Uphold Board policies, including the anti-harassment program.
- Work in a cooperative manner with students, teachers, staff, supervisors, and the public.
- Work effectively and efficiently under time and productivity standards.
Essential Job Functions:
- Report for duty fifteen minutes before the opening of school and remain fifteen minutes after the close of school.
- Teaches skills in music appreciation, harmony, and explorations in music, and in instrumental music (band, orchestra, instrumental ensemble) and vocal music (chorus, choir, choral ensemble) to secondary students. Utilizes course of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.
- Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
- Establishes a positive classroom climate and effectively manages music education instruction within that environment. Provides individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
- Utilizes repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary, that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of students.
- Organizes and controls the storage and use of school owned instruments and property, controls the use of materials, equipment, and instruments to prevent loss, abuse, or injury.
- Controls the storage and use of school-owned property; makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to instruments as required.
- Develop lessons and lesson plans making use of instructional materials and, provide individual and small group instruction in adopting the curriculum to the needs of each student.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during class, practice, group rehearsals, and musical performances.
- Evaluates each student’s musical growth and performance, assessing each individual’s contribution to the performance of the group.
- Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress.
- Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
- Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities as assigned.
- Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
- Participates in faculty committees and sponsorship of student activities.
- Maintains professional competence through in-service education provided by the district, and in self-selected professional growth activities related to music.
- Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations at the times designated.
- Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of the resources provided and appropriate to the interests and maturity of the students.
