Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Special Education Para educator role based at Myrtlewood Elementary School in Fosters, AL. The Special Education Para educator supports students with diverse learning needs in both special education and general education classrooms, following teacher and specialist guidance. Day-to-day responsibilities include assisting with individualized instruction, reinforcing academic and social skills, and supporting accommodations and modifications outlined in students’ plans.

The role involves monitoring student behavior, promoting positive classroom engagement, and helping implement behavior support strategies. The Para educator also helps with classroom organization, prepares instructional materials, and collaborates with teachers, families, and school staff to foster an inclusive learning environment.

Qualifications

  • Strong communication skills, including clear verbal and written communication with students, educators, and families.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive, respectful relationships with students and colleagues.
  • Skills in behavior management and the ability to follow behavior support plans and promote positive student conduct.
  • Experience or interest in working with children in educational or childcare settings.
  • Knowledge of or experience with special education, including supporting students with diverse learning, behavioral, or physical needs.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework or degree in education or related field preferred.
  • Ability to follow teacher and specialist directions, work as part of a team, and maintain confidentiality regarding student information.
  • Basic computer skills and comfort using educational technology and classroom tools.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe, inclusive, and respectful school environment for all students.
