PreK Assistant Teacher

Immediate Supervisor:
School Principal

Minimum Qualifications:

Be at least 19 years of age.

Possess a high school diploma or GED.

Possess a Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) OR at least 9 credit hours of college coursework in the field of Early Childhood Education or Child Development from a regionally accredited institution.

Possess appropriate experience (at least one year) working in early childhood or experience in other OSR approved settings.

Skills and Abilities:

Demonstrates competency in the content knowledge including concepts, facts, skills, and tools of inquiry.

Demonstrates understanding of child development.

Displays knowledge and use of oral and written communication

Ability to work with lead teacher to plan, prepare, and develop various developmentally appropriate activities that support learning.

Ability to work well with parents of small children.

Ability to work with children and families from diverse social, economic, and cultural backgrounds.

Willing to attend training sessions as assigned.

Ability to use technology as needed.

Possesses physical ability to navigate the school and classroom

Essential Functions:

Discusses assigned teaching area with classroom teacher to coordinate instructional efforts.

Assists in presenting subject matter to students, utilizing a variety of methods and techniques such as authentic learning experiences, discussion, and supervised role playing.

Assist in TS Gold Assessment and other technology used to support classroom instruction and communication.

Assists students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts.

Works with lead teacher to provide learning experiences that make the subject matter meaningful and relevant for all students.

Works with lead teacher to implement appropriate instructional and assessment strategies

Motivates, engages, and maximizes student learning.

Plans, prepares, and develops various teaching aids that support learning.

Follows all directives of immediate supervisor and Morgan County School Board policy in regard to professional conduct, duties, and responsibilities.

Collaborates with family and community in the education of students.

Possesses the ability to physically navigate the schools and offices.

Demonstrates proper use of acceptable grammar and diction.

Projects and modulates voice in a school environment with and/or without the use of electronic aides.

Represents the school system in a positive manner at all times.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
