Certified Position - Special Education Teacher 6-12

Special Education Teacher:
Successful candidate must be certified and Highly Qualified in collaborative special education and skilled in the following areas: adaptation/modification of instruction and instructional delivery, IEP development and implementation, and behavior and classroom management as well as being able to perform all duties in a timely and professional manner. Additional duties may be assigned by the Principal.

The duties include but are not limited to:

• Establishes objectives and plans learning experiences.
• Implements activities using a variety of techniques that utilize instructional time to meet objectives.
• Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to achieve a functional learning atmosphere.
• Exhibits positive human relations skills.
• Evaluates the educational program and/or student progress.
• Communicates with parents/guardians, colleagues, and community groups.
• Demonstrates proficiency in written and oral communication.
• Maintains and submits records and reports.
• Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local board policies, and state and federal rules and regulations.
• Engages in personal professional growth and demonstrates professional ethics and leadership.

Qualifications:

Must have appropriate valid Alabama Teaching Certificate.

Reports to Principal and/or Special Education Director

Duty Days - 187

Salary:
According to Walker County Schools Salary Schedule.

• This position will be subject to the Students First Act of 2011. Walker County Schools reserves the right to fill this position by transfer of a qualified applicant who is already employed by Walker County Schools.
• Under the Students First Act of 2011, no credit toward tenure or non-probationary status is earned in the initial school year of employment if the date of hire occurs after September 30th.

Applicants selected for certified positions must have undergone an ABI/FBI criminal history background check (fingerprinting administered through sites selected and approved by the WCBOE and State of Alabama Education Department) and been declared suitable and fit to teach under state law.
