Job Description:

The Department of Emergency Management and Public Administration of the Jacksonville State University's College of Social & Behavioral Sciences is seeking to hire a scholar for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor. In addition to teaching, successful candidates are expected to develop externally sponsored scholarly research programs and supervise doctoral students in the program. The faculty hired may have option to work remotely.

Responsible for teaching doctorate, graduate and undergraduate level courses in emergency management along with doctoral level research and advanced data analysis. Responsible for advisement, professional development activities, and grant writing within the emergency management area. Assesses student’s abilities as related to desired educational goals and objectives, in order to maximize student achievement. Serves as advisor and mentor for students. Communicates continually to students (either in writing or verbally) in regard to instructional expectations, student progress or lack of progress.

Responsible for recoding students’ attendance and keeps attendance registers, according to JSU policy. Exhibits a commitment and ability to conduct scholarly activities and engage in professional, university, and community service. Participates in professional growth and development activities including faculty meetings, and professional development activities as required or assigned. Assists in the documentation of student progress by efficiently maintaining and submitting appropriate records and reports.

Agrees to participate in extracurricular activities as requested by the head of the department or Dean of the school. Fulfill faculty responsibilities as stated by institutional and departmental policy and by administration. Serves on departmental and university committees. Performs other duties as assigned by the department head.

• EM 8032 Hazards Risk Management and Community Resilience
  The course examines tools and methods for managing risks associated with community hazards, as well as the role of emergency management programs in community resilience and sustainability.
• EM 8673 Health Care Systems in Disaster
  The course provides an overview of emergency management considerations for health and medical professionals and a range of medical, public health, behavioral, and psychological problems associated with disaster; incident management processes and organizations that integrate health and medical assets into the response.

• EM 5730 Research Methods in Emergency Management
  The course provides comprehensive coverage of the major analytical and statistical tools used in emergency management for conducting hazard and disaster research.

Requires a Ph.D. in Emergency Management or relevant disciplines. Must have experience in: college/university level teaching; teaching online courses using Canvas as the Learning Management Platform; involvement in research and grant-writing experience; and scholarly activities such as publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
