The Critical Operations, Readiness and Execution (CORE) Team provides Test Engineering expertise and support to the Transportation and Program groups across all of LM Space. As a Systems Integration & Test Engineer Staff, you will have direct involvement in the Planning, Preparation, Operational Execution, and Mission Closeout phases associated with the movement and handling of high‑value, critical flight hardware assemblies and sub‑assemblies.
Your day‑to‑day life can vary tremendously—from creating schedules and authoring Test Engineering procedures in the office to escorting a satellite or missile to its launch complex on a C5 military aircraft. The primary function of this opening is to support the Next Generation Interceptor program, utilizing your education, experience and team skills to tackle technical challenges related to the critical operations, transportation and handling events of flight hardware at Huntsville and Courtland, AL.
During the operational execution phase of a mission, the CORE Team leads flight hardware transports in a hands‑on capacity at a number of sites across the United States, and on occasion, internationally. Team members can expect short work‑travel (2–7 days) about 8–12 times per year.
If you like working in a hands‑on environment, enjoy moderate travel, and want to apply your Engineering background in the field, we look forward to hearing from you! This position involves little daily oversight. Applicants must be outgoing self‑starters, willing to actively communicate and work with program employees and customers on a regular basis. Your responsibilities within the CORE Team as a Systems Integration & Test Engineer Staff are summarized below.
- Plan, implement, document, and maintain technical solutions for the integration and testing of components, sub‑systems, and systems
- Integrate customer requirements into system test solutions that account for technical, schedule, and cost constraints
- Lead/Execute large‑scale, multidisciplinary, critical operations involving the transportation and handling of flight hardware
- Master’s Degree
- Certified Test Conductor credentials
- Experience in spacecraft or missile transportation events (aircraft loading/offloading, transportation containers, over‑the‑road logistics)
- Experience in developing Functional Failure Modes & Analyses
- Knowledge/Experience with automation framework for procedural documentation
- Familiarity with vehicle‑mounted HVAC and environmental control systems
- Experience with clean‑room operations
- LMSSC crane director, aerial lift (PALD) and walk‑behind tug and forklift certifications
- Strong verbal and written communication skills (customer‑facing role)
- Works well in a small team
- Possess or have the ability to obtain a United States passport
