Position: Telecommunications Engineer (Secret) with Security Clearance
Location: Fort Novosel

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Telecommunications Engineer to support the design, engineering, modernization, and sustainment of telecommunications infrastructure. This role focuses on outside plant (OSP) engineering, fiber optic network design, cable plant modernization, and telecommunications construction projects. The ideal candidate will have experience supporting fiber and copper infrastructure, telecommunications engineering design, and large-scale network modernization initiatives in a government or enterprise environment.

Work Environment: 100% on-site role at Fort Rucker, Alabama supporting telecommunications engineering and infrastructure modernization initiatives. Position includes a combination of office and field work, periodic travel to project locations, outdoor site visits, and occasional after-hours support during emergency restoration activities. Responsibilities:
* Design, engineer, and maintain telecommunications infrastructure including fiber optic, copper, and outside plant (OSP) networks.
* Develop network designs, route plans, construction drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and bills of materials.
* Conduct site surveys, field assessments, and feasibility studies to support network planning and expansion.
* Coordinate with contractors, utility providers, municipalities, permitting authorities, and internal stakeholders to support project execution.
* Modernize telecommunications records and coordinate with customer Network Enterprise Center (NEC) teams to improve cable plant documentation and databases.
* Review engineering designs, construction documents, and work orders to ensure compliance with standards and best practices.
* Support telecommunications construction projects through technical oversight, design reviews, and quality assurance activities.
* Analyze network performance and identify risks affecting reliability, capacity, and operational efficiency, including severe weather impacts to infrastructure.
* Maintain engineering documentation, asset records, network maps, and telecommunications databases.
* Assist with project planning, budgeting, resource allocation, and long-term infrastructure modernization initiatives.
* Support emergency restoration efforts and troubleshooting during outages or service disruptions.
* Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements to existing telecommunications infrastructure.

Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
* 3-5 years of telecommunications engineering, network engineering, OSP engineering, or related experience.
* Experience with fiber optic network design, telecommunications infrastructure, and outside plant construction practices.
* Experience using engineering design software, GIS platforms, CAD tools, and telecommunications mapping systems.
* Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Experience with Microsoft Office and project management tools. Clearance & Certifications Requirements:
* Active Secret Security Clearance required.
* BICSI Certification required. Preferred:
* Professional Engineer (PE) license or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
* BICSI RCDD certification.
* Experience with FTTH, broadband, utility, carrier, or enterprise fiber deployments.
* Knowledge of NESC , OSHA requirements, and telecommunications industry standards.
* PMP certification or project management experience.
* Experience with OSP permitting, right-of-way coordination, and utility partnerships. Compensation:
* Pay range: $90,000 - $100,000 (Based on years of relevant experience) Benefits:
