Talascend is currently seeking a Plant Accounting & Finance Analyst for a direct hire opportunity with our client in Calvert, Alabama.
This role provides accounting support, financial analysis, and forecasting for a large-scale steel manufacturing operation in Calvert, Alabama. The analyst plays a key role in month-end close activities, internal controls, financial reporting, and process improvement initiatives to support business and operational goals.
This position operates in a plant environment combining accounting, forecasting, SAP reporting, and cross-functional support with technical and operations teams.
Responsibilities- Performs account analysis and prepares accrual calculations in support of month-end close
- Actively participates in key month-end closing activities and financial reporting cycles
- Supports preparation of forecasts and annual business planning
- Analyzes financial results and explains variances related to plant operations
- Reviews internal control environment and works to implement necessary changes
- Leads and implements process automation and improvement initiatives
- Provides financial analysis and support for special accounting and operational projects
- Interacts regularly with technical support departments concerning financial processes
- Ensures compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards
- Supports adherence to quality and environmental management systems as defined by ISO 14001, IATF 16949, and ISO 17025
- Demonstrates company values of safety, teamwork, accountability, relationships, and sustainability
- Fulfills commitments to ensure a safe and healthy work environment
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, or combination of post‑secondary education and related experience
- Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience in a large manufacturing environment, preferably in the steel industry
- Ability to research, compile, analyze, and interpret data accurately and in a timely manner
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Excel, Teams, Word, PowerPoint)
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP and/or IFRS
- Highly skilled in SAP FI module, with working knowledge of large ERP systems preferred
- CPA or MBA preferred
