Overview
Personal Financial Counselor providing full breadth of personal financial counseling services to military service members and their families at assigned military installations.
Responsibilities- Provide comprehensive personal financial counseling services directly to service members and families.
- Educate and counsel on financial services including one‑on‑one counseling, consultation with commanders or other staff, briefings, presentations, and referral resources.
- Work closely with installation and military branch points of contact (POCs) to ensure the program is within scope and meets installation needs.
- Assist service members in establishing a spending plan for extended absences.
- Develop and provide informational financial materials to service members and families.
- Coordinate, publicize, and deliver a wide variety of Personal Financial Management classes and workshops across the military lifecycle, including arrival at first duty station, pre‑deployment, post‑deployment, and personal and career events outlined in DoDI 1322.34.
- Respond to requests for age‑appropriate classes or seminars.
- Utilize virtual counseling or other electronic modes of communication, such as web‑based, secure online chat, video‑based communications, and secure video teleconference sponsored by the customer; virtual PFC support authorized only by the OSD FINRED Program office.
- Manage duty‑to‑warn situations according to Department of Defense (DoD) protocol.
- Communicate with leadership and participate in regular individual and group supervision, sharing information regarding trends and issues on the installations.
- Participate in regular in‑services/training, quality improvement committees, or other contract activities as assigned or appropriate.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree required. Applicant may be considered with an associate degree plus four years’ experience or high school diploma plus six years’ experience.
- Three or more years of financial counseling experience.
- Must be a U.S. citizen and speak fluent English; bilingual in English and Spanish if required by the contract.
- Obtain a favorably adjudicated Tier 2 investigation.
- Pass the Congressionally Mandated Disclosures for Organizational Conflicts of Interest (OCI) process.
- Hold one of the following certifications:
Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC), Certified Financial Planner (CFP), or Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC).
- Driver License valid in state.
Base salary range: $58,440 – $93,500. Pay will be adjusted based on individual skills, experience, education, and other permissible factors. Position may be eligible for short‑term incentives and comprehensive benefits package.
