Job DescriptionThe Ohio Environmental Protection Agency wants you to be our newest environmental specialist in our Division of Environmental Response and Revitalization (DERR) at our Southwest District Office in Montgomery County.
As DERR’s newest environmental specialist, you will perform district Site Coordinator and RCRA Inspector duties for assigned remedial action and hazardous waste handling facilities.
- Review, prepare, and implement work plans, sampling plans, reports, and technical memoranda associated with the investigation of environmental releases from hazardous waste sites.
- Inspect facilities for compliance with state and federal regulations and permit requirements and evaluate permit applications and requested modifications.
- Identify possible pollution prevention alternatives, investigate complaints, assess contaminated environmental or waste‑related media, and conduct periodic inspections to verify compliance.
- Plan and develop strategies for assisting responsible parties and hazardous waste facilities with non‑compliance issues and initiate necessary enforcement actions.
- Provide technical assistance to Ohio EPA legal staff and the Ohio Attorney General’s Office, provide testimony in legal proceedings and enforcement meetings, and engage with settlement negotiations.
NOTE:
THIS POSITION MAY REQUIRE PARTICIPATION IN OHIO EPA'S MEDICAL MONITORING PROGRAM.
Minimum qualifications:
- 12 months experience as Environmental Specialist 1, 85861.
- OR 4 years of training or 4 years of experience in a position involving engineering or chemistry, physics, biology, environmental science, geology or hydrogeology, or other comparable physical or health science field and/or mathematics, with responsibility for conducting compliance monitoring surveys, inspections, reviews, investigations, or review of permit applications relative to oil & gas well operations or injection, annular disposal, saltwater injection wells, enhanced recovery projects, coal mining, solid/hazardous waste sites, or industrial & municipal wastewater dischargers, and compiling and preparing environmental assessments, evaluations, reports, and related documents.
Training and experience must be commensurate with duties to be assigned. - OR a baccalaureate degree in engineering, chemistry, physics, biology, environmental science, earth science, urban & regional planning, geology, or other comparable physical or health science fields, with training to be commensurate with duties to be assigned.
