Respiratory Therapist – CVICU & CCU, Main Campus
Location:
Lowder Building, Main Campus.
Schedule:
Full‑time Day Shift (7 a.m.–7 p.m.) typically 12‑hour shifts.
A registered respiratory therapist (RRT) will provide respiratory care services in all hospital areas including intensive care units, medical and surgical floors, emergency departments, post‑anesthesia care units, infant nurseries, and home‑care environments. The RRT must adapt to the specific area of duty, perform special duties, and may provide respiratory therapy during critical‑care patient transports. The RRT may supervise and be responsible for other respiratory care practitioners and may be asked to mentor students during clinical rotations at Children’s of Alabama.
Responsibilities- Deliver respiratory care services to patients in ICU, medical/surgical floors, ED, PACU, infant nurseries, and home care settings.
- Adapt to assigned duty area and perform special duties as required.
- Provide respiratory therapy services during critical‑care patient transports.
- Supervise and be responsible for the work of other respiratory care practitioners.
- Assign orientation and in‑service education responsibilities; function as mentor for respiratory therapy students.
- Work under technical supervision and clinical guidance of the Respiratory Care Clinical Coordinators.
- Receive direct administrative supervision from the area Respiratory Care Manager and Respiratory Care Department Head.
- Carry out duties and responsibilities according to policies, procedures, and guidelines approved by the Medical Directors of the department.
- Maintain standards of performance for the assigned area.
- Achieves a satisfactory level of technical and professional skill in assigned clinical areas; keeps up with current developments and trends.
- Actively identifies new learning areas, creates and takes advantage of learning opportunities, applies newly gained knowledge on the job.

- Licensed Registered Respiratory Therapist or Temporary Licensed Respiratory Therapist.
- Basic Life Support certification.
Associate’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy.
ExperienceMinimum of 1 year of job experience as Staff Level with specialization in respiratory therapy.
ScheduleDay Shift, 7 a.m.–7 p.m., 12‑hour shifts.
