Maintenance Worker
The Maintenance Worker is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance, repair, and upkeep of residential units and academic facilities at Alabama A&M. This position helps ensure a safe, clean, and well-maintained environment for residents, students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The ideal candidate is a reliable self-starter who can effectively manage multiple priorities and respond to maintenance needs in a fast-paced environment. Compensation for this role is $20.00 to $28.50 per hour.
Schedule:
Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Job Responsibilities:
- Respond to and complete work orders in a timely, professional manner.
- Perform general maintenance and repair work across multiple trades, including carpentry, plumbing, and light electrical repairs.
- Troubleshoot maintenance issues and determine efficient, effective solutions.
- Inspect assigned areas routinely and perform preventative maintenance to maintain safe and functional facilities.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Ensure all repairs and maintenance activities comply with applicable safety standards and policies.
- Demonstrate safe operation of tools, equipment, and maintenance machinery.
- Work independently while effectively managing changing priorities throughout the day.
- Provide excellent customer service when interacting with residents, students, faculty, staff, and guests.
- Adhere to all organizational safety policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of residential and/or commercial maintenance experience.
- Experience performing general repairs in carpentry, plumbing, and light electrical work.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of workplace safety practices and procedures.
- Ability to lift, bend, push, pull, walk, and stand for extended periods as required.
- Commitment to providing excellent customer service.
