About City Walk BHAMThe recent completion of Birmingham’s I-59/20 Central Business District (CBD) Interstate bridges brings about a renewed focus on the space underneath the bridges known as City Walk BHAM. The goal of City Walk BHAM is to provide a space to assist in reconnecting Birmingham and create a destination and common area open to all citizens.
City Walk BHAM spans 10 city blocks, from 15th St N to 25th St N – almost a mile in length. The entire area encompasses 31 acres, which will provide a space to assist in connecting Birmingham.
Summary / ObjectiveThe Operations Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day activities and operations of City Walk BHAM. At the direction of the Director of City Walk Operations this role will ensure proper staffing, maintenance, cleanliness, and guest experiences standards are being met.
Demonstrates understanding and full performance ability in each of the following:
- Directs the overall daily operation and maintenance of the City Walk Birmingham venue.
- Responsible for curating, coordinating and executing various event space programming.
- Ensuring all aspects of the venue grounds and infrastructure are well maintained, clean, safe and maintained in an efficient manner.
- Select, train, motivate and evaluate team; work with employees to correct deficiencies and provide team development.
- Coordinate with internal team members to ensure proper staffing, including custodial, maintenance and etc. to ensure a safe environment for visitors and patrons of City Walk BHAM.
- Coordinate with internal team members and landscape contractors, to ensure landscape standards are consistently being met.
- Responsible for initial determination of items of concern as they relate to electrical, mechanical, plumbing, painting, graffiti and overall general maintenance.
- Responsible for initiating and tracking work orders with the facility mechanical plant.
- Creates and oversees the daily schedules for venue.
- Ensure adequate personnel are scheduled to meet the demands of venue events.
- Responsible for determining the need to temporarily close areas deemed unsafe either by staff or outside contractors.
- Serves on CWB leadership team, offering professional expertise on all matters related to the management of the venue.
- Some knowledge of general maintenance of electrical, mechanical, plumbing.
- Ensure standards for product, equipment, service quality and operator performance are maintained.
- Keeps up to date on information and technology affecting functional area(s) to increase innovation and ensure compliance.
- Assist with the administration of departmental SOP’s and regulatory standards for areas of responsibility.
- Leads and directs a diverse group of teammates, partners and clients.
- Establishes and maintains relationships and works constructively and cooperatively with internal teammates and partners.
- Maintain hazardous materials communication program, material safety data sheets and required records, permits; maintain knowledge of changes in pertinent Federal, State and Local regulations.
- Maintain an accurate record keeping-system, including equipment, maintenance, inventory, building services, grounds maintenance, and inventory logs.
- Properly manage department inventory including procurement, tracking, auditing and stocking levels.
- Performs other duties as required.

Work EnvironmentThis position may have a moderate to extensive stress level associated with dealing with crowds of public visitors. The environment is outdoors and exposed to the elements (heat, rain, etc.).
Physical DemandsPosition requires lifting, climbing, carrying, bending, stooping, squatting, and kneeling for extended periods of time. Extensive walking and/or standing. Ability to lift up to 50lbs of items with or without assistance, while maintaining good balance. Must be flexible enough to reach above shoulder level and be able to push and pull for brief periods of time. Visual acuity, speech recognition, and speech clarity.
PositionType / Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position; hours of work must be flexible and varied to meet the demands of the events of the facility. Must be able to work extended and/or irregular hours including day, nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
