Day in the Life
As an Electrician, you will install, maintain, and repair electrical and electronic systems across the mill. Your day will involve inspecting equipment, troubleshooting electrical issues, repairing faulty components, programming and testing automated machinery, and completing preventative maintenance to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient mill operations. You will work closely with operators, planning, and scheduling teams to keep production running smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, and repair all electrical and electronic systems on site, including production machinery and equipment.
- Follow electrical codes, technical manuals, schematic diagrams, and blueprints when performing repairs.
- Observe equipment in operation to locate issues and determine appropriate corrective action.
- Test malfunctioning components and perform required adjustments or repairs.
- Diagnose and repair or replace faulty electrical components such as relays, switches, motors, and sensors.
- Diagnose and repair or replace electronic components including printed circuit boards and programmable controllers.
- Program and operate programmable controllers to test, troubleshoot, and verify equipment repairs.
- Diagnose and repair hydraulic and pneumatic components related to electrical systems.
- Perform routine electrical preventive and predictive maintenance.
- Communicate professionally with operators regarding equipment performance.
- Collaborate with planning and scheduling teams to ensure timely completion of maintenance tasks.
- Submit work requests and complete work orders accurately, detailing actions taken, parts used, and labor hours.
- Follow all corporate safety programs including PPE and lockout/tagout compliance.
- Maintain and repair high-voltage switch gear and components (12,470 volts).
Required Qualifications:
- Willingness to work any shift, including weekends, holidays, or overtime.
- Strong commitment to safety and excellent attendance.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
- Ability to learn, adapt to change, and work in a noisy industrial environment.
- Ability to follow all safety policies and wear required PPE.
- Three years of experience in electrical work or a two-year technical degree in Industrial Electrical, Electronics, or related field.
- Experience with programmable logic controllers, electronic diagnostics, and industrial production equipment.
- Experience in the lumber, wood products, or manufacturing industry.
- Ability to read electrical drawings and troubleshoot complex systems.
- Ability to lift at least 40 pounds.
- Ability to work from elevated positions using required safety gear.
- Ability to perform tasks such as climbing, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling, stooping, and standing for extended periods.
- Ability to work in a variety of environmental conditions.
- Ability to work in a full-body arc flash suit, gloves, and face shield.
- Two-year technical degree in Industrial Electrical, Electronics, or a related field (experience may substitute).
