- Responsible for the operation of front-end loader to lift and transport logs to and from storage areas, to feed conveyors, hoppers and to load into dry kiln as well as remove from dry kiln and stack for storage and load trucks
- Starts engine, shifts gears, presses pedals, and turns steering wheel to operate loader
- Moves levers to lower and tilt bucket and drives front-end loader to force bucket into bulk materials
- Moves levers to raise and tilt bucket when filled, drives vehicle to work site, and moves levers to dump material
- Verifies amount of product in storage bins and fills hoppers to ensure adequate quantity and quality of raw materials is maintained
- Performs routine maintenance on loaders, such as lubricating, fueling, and cleaning
- Participates in making sure the quality and quantity of raw materials meets established standards
- Ensures assigned established performance indicators are met
- Works toward improvement of the assigned plant and surrounding area
- Follows established procedures to ensure that the plant for which he/she is working is following state, federal, and local regulations and requirements
- Participates in ongoing minor maintenance and visual evaluations of plant and equipment
- Confers with plant superintendent, batch person, and other personnel to resolve problems, provide immediate feedback, and may recommend solutions to improve performance
- Meet or exceed company safety standards
- Perform other job responsibilities as assigned by management
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Previous heavy equipment operator experience
- The ability to twist, bend, and lift 50 lbs. repetitively and work in a fast-paced, noisy environment in all weather conditions
- Self-motivated, ability to work independently, and manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- General computer knowledge/experience and attention to detail
