Position: Boston Whaler Laminator I
Location: Edgewater

Position Overview

As part of the talented Boston Whaler team, a fiberglass laminator creates components for boats by applying fiberglass to a mold. The laminator ensures all areas of the mold are covered with a sufficient amount of resin‑saturated fiberglass matting to provide the desired strength of the finished component. The laminator sprays or lays fiberglass onto the mold, presses it to remove air bubbles, and removes the cured product.

In two‑part molds, the laminator positions spacing blocks and inserts one mold into another. The position includes mixing resins, removing cured panels, and related tasks.

Essential Functions
  • Ensure required parts and raw materials are ready to run when scheduled.
  • Arrange material in a specific pattern according to documentation using numbers, letters, words or pictures.
  • Spray fiberglass and/or lay sheets of fiberglass on part mold.
  • Press layers into place and use a roller to smooth wrinkles or voids.
  • Use fiberglass chop guns.
  • Use hands, arms, and rollers to handle, install, position, and manipulate material.
  • Use a mil gauge for gel coats and fiberglass to ensure correct material application.
  • Maintain clean and tidy material storage in the assigned area.
  • Participate in continuous improvement and cost‑saving initiatives.
  • Participate in EH&S and quality initiatives.
  • Operate material‑handling equipment such as platform trucks, forklifts, aerial work platforms, pallet jacks, overhead hoist, etc.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) including respirators, gloves, chemical‑resistant aprons and suits.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma, GED, or 1+ year related experience/training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Ability to read, hear, interpret and understand written or verbal instructions and exchange accurate information.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proactive team player, self‑starter with constant attention to improvement.
  • Excellent reasoning skills, including researching system discrepancies and kitting errors.
  • Basic reading comprehension and writing skills; ability to work from verbal and written instructions; routine paper work competence.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy; ability to remain extremely focused and organized.
  • Ability to work with multiple priorities and people.
  • High level of energy, creativity, and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word).
  • Familiarity with materials resources planning (MRP) software and systems.
  • Marine experience preferred but not required.
  • Familiarity with modern warehousing practices and methods.
  • Shop‑floor working environment; non‑climate‑controlled with temperature, humidity, and moderate noise conditions.
  • Frequent exposure to high temperatures, chemicals, moving mechanical parts, resin dust, and epoxy composites.
  • Ability to walk or stand for extended periods; regularly bend, stoop, kneel, twist, crouch, reach, climb, and lift up to 35 pounds.
  • Vision requirements include close vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
Working Conditions

The employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. Noise level is usually moderate.

The anticipated pay range for this position is $18.59 to $28.30 hourly. Actual base pay will vary by individual qualifications and business context.
