The Tool Maker / CNC Machinist is responsible for all aspects of tool and die manufacturing, including the build and final assembly of progressive dies and fixtures, as well as the setup, operation, and basic programming of CNC mills and lathes. This role requires a high level of precision, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work independently while maintaining tight tolerances.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build, assemble, and maintain progressive dies, fixtures, and tooling
  • Perform all aspects of tool and die manufacturing with minimal supervision
  • Set up and operate CNC mills and lathes
  • Perform basic CNC programming and edits at the machine as needed
  • Select appropriate feeds and speeds for various materials
  • Troubleshoot and resolve tooling, machining, and production issues
  • Work to extremely tight tolerances (± .0002)
  • Operate various tool room equipment and machinery
  • Inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, reduce costs, and increase efficiency
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed
  • May assist in training or supervising junior machinists
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent (strong math and English skills required)
  • 1–3+ years of machining or tool & die experience (more experience preferred for advanced responsibilities)
  • Experience in CNC machining and tool room operations
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Proficiency with precision measuring tools (micrometers, verniers, gauges)
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Effective time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Manufacturing/tool room environment with exposure to machinery, noise, and metal materials
  • Requires use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
