Description

The LPN position is to supervise the day‑to‑day nursing activities, including the passing of medication in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards governing the facility, and as may be directed by the Director of Nursing Services or Assistant Director of Nursing Services, to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administrative Functions – Direct day‑to‑day nursing activities; develop, maintain, and update written nursing policies, procedures, manuals, objectives, and philosophies; complete and maintain medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charts, and other documentation; admit, transfer, and discharge residents as required; ensure that nursing personnel provide proper resident care and perform duties in accordance with written policies and procedures; implement and maintain a quality assurance program;

    review and update resident discharge plans; participate in surveys and inspections by government agencies; interpret departmental policies for personnel, residents, families, visitors, and agencies; report to the Director of Nursing Services on departmental operations and make recommendations; enforce safety and clinical standards; monitor medication administration and drug records; order supplies and equipment; ensure adequate medication levels; enforce restraints and safety protocols;

    maintain cleanliness of nursing service treatment areas; conduct rounds with physicians; provide direct nursing care as needed; coordinate transportation for discharged residents; inform families of resident death and call funeral homes when requested.
  • Charting and Documentation Functions – Sign, date, and perform all routine charting and recordkeeping; complete and chart all accidents and incidents involving residents and submit to the Director of Nursing as required; encourage physicians to review treatment plans and record orders, progress notes, etc.; properly record telephone orders and transfer all physician orders to resident charts; record diet orders and forward to the Dietary Department;

    report all discrepancies concerning physician orders, diet changes, charting errors to the Director of Nursing Services; complete transfer and discharge forms; file all required forms, records, and charts upon resident admissions, transfers, and discharges.
  • Personnel Functions – Assist in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling, evaluating, disciplining, and terminating nursing services personnel; coordinate personnel actions with the Personnel Manager or Administrator; schedule department work hours, including vacation, holiday, shift, and work assignments; delegate administrative authority and responsibility to supervisory personnel; ensure all nursing personnel have valid licenses and perform duties in accordance with nursing standards; review personnel complaints and grievances and ensure compliance with policies and applicable laws.
  • Staff Development Functions – Develop work assignments; review and evaluate staffing requirements, employee performance evaluations, and absenteeism; recommend disciplinary actions; conduct daily rounds and report findings to the Director; enforce policy adherence; meet with nursing personnel regularly to identify and correct issue areas; conduct training and orientation; maintain professional competence, current licenses, and continuing education.
