Summary

Alabama A&M University (AAMU)'s Forestry, Ecology, and Wildlife Program invites applications, especially from women and underrepresented groups, for the position of Post-Doctoral Scientist of Forest and/or Avian Ecology. This is a 12-month appointment funded through USDA for the collaborative research of USDA Forest Service, Tennessee State University, and AAMU. We seek a candidate committed to diversity, equity and inclusion, and experienced in field research, professional publication, interactions with partners, and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conducting forest and/or avian ecology research at Bankhead National Forest.
  • Supervising graduate and undergraduate students working on the project.
  • Interacting with partners including federal and state agencies, private land owners, and university faculty and students.
  • Developing proposals for continuing or new projects.
  • Developing and managing research database, performing statistical analysis, and developing manuscripts for publications.
Minimum

Position Requirements
  • Ph.D in forestry, ecology, wildlife, biology, natural resources, a closely related discipline, emphasizing field-based terrestrial or wildlife ecology and forest ecosystem management.
  • A valid driver's license.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • We seek a candidate committed to diversity, equity and inclusion, and field-based research.
  • Experience with statistical software such as SAS, SPSS, or R.
  • Experience with GIS and remote sensing software and data process.
  • Forest and/or avian related data collection and process procedures and techniques. History of success in publishing in peer-reviewed professional journals.
  • Ability to collaborate with others in interdisciplinary projects and engage in outreach to landowners, managers, and other stakeholders.
