Hatchery Attendant
Job no: 493760
Work type: Full Time
Location: Forest Home Hatchery
Categories: Freshwater (Hatchery)
At Huon, we're proud to be leaders in sustainable aquaculture - and right now, we have two exciting opportunities to join our Freshwater Operations team in the stunning Huon Valley.
We're recruiting for full-time Hatchery Attendants across two unique sites:
• Our large, state-of-the-art freshwater facility in Judbury
• Our original, nostalgic hatchery in Lonnavale
Both roles work a 7 days on / 7 days off roster- the ultimate lifestyle balance, giving you half the year off to enjoy Tasmania.
These sites are remote, so reliable transport is essential.
The Opportunity
This is a hands-on role where you'll play a vital part in supporting hatchery operations and ensuring the health and welfare of our fish stock is maintained to the highest standard.
No two days are the same, and you'll be part of a passionate team helping raise the next generation of premium Huon salmon.
What you'll be doing
• Feeding and caring for fish stock
• Cleaning tanks and maintaining hatchery systems
• Completing mort collection and flushing activities
• Monitoring water quality and recording data accurately
• Completing daily checklists and operational paperwork
• Working both independently and collaboratively within the team
• Communicating effectively with leaders and teammates
• Maintaining a strong focus on safety, fish welfare, and site standards
About you
You might already have experience in aquaculture, farming, agriculture, animal care or fish husbandry - or maybe you're simply someone who enjoys practical outdoor work and wants to learn.
What matters most is your attitude, reliability, and willingness to be part of a hardworking team.
You'll bring:
• An interest in aquaculture or fish husbandry
• Strong time management and organisational skills
• Attention to detail and pride in your work
• A proactive mindset and willingness to learn
• Commitment to safety and teamwork
• Reliable transport to and from site
Why Huon?
As part of JBS, the world's largest protein producer, Huon offers the scale, stability and opportunity of a global organisation - while still feeling connected locally to Tasmania and the work you do every day.
When you join Huon, you'll enjoy:
- Discounts on our premium, sustainably farmed salmon - enjoy the best salmon in the world at home
- Ongoing training and development, with opportunities to grow your leadership capability and career
- Discounted health insurance and access to wellbeing benefits
- Retail and lifestyle discounts across a wide range of everyday shopping
- The chance to make a real impact in a future-focused, values-driven business
