Summary

Salary: $55,486 to $99,314 per year, varying by location.
Responsibilities- Performs developmental assignments in the application of professional principles, techniques, methods, and procedures relating to the investigation, analysis, and interpretation of the composition, molecular structure, and properties of substances.
- Performs recurring assignments, independently handling tasks of increasing difficulty and complexity as directed by the supervisor or team lead.
- Participates in special initiatives, studies, and projects, working with other specialists to plan, perform research, and conduct studies.
- Prepares written correspondence and other documentation, drafting responses to routine inquiries, reports, letters, and related material.
- For GS‑09 level:
Performs advanced developmental assignments, investigates transformations of substances, and interprets energy changes. Determines procedures, resolves factual issues, and adapts guidelines to resolve procedural or factual problems. - Carries out special projects, collaborates with specialists in planning and conducting studies, and prepares comprehensive reports and documentation.
Degree in physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering with at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by coursework in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and a minimum of 6 semester hours of physics.
QualificationsSkills and Abilities
(KSAs)
- Professional knowledge of chemistry concepts, theories, and standard practices sufficient to perform assignments.
- Skill in applying principles and concepts of chemistry to complete assignments.
- Knowledge of the occupation to prepare reports, documentation, and correspondence that communicate factual and procedural information clearly.
- Ability to communicate information clearly, both orally and in writing, and to work professionally with peers and management.
- Ability to plan and organize work, consult with coworkers, and apply analytical investigative techniques.
- U.S. citizenship required.
- Probationary period of one year.
- Security clearance may be required (Secret).
- Potential travel and relocation.
