Greenhouse Technician

Summary: The Greenhouse Technician is responsible for assisting with the planning, growing, and production of products of exceptional quality, providing meaningful work experience and on‑the‑job training for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities within Rainbow Omega, Inc.’s greenhouses and garden center.

• Assist in planning and implementation of the vocational program, supervising individuals served by ROI who participate in the program.
• Know each individual served personally to respond to their needs, motivate and help them reach their full potential.
• Assist individuals in achieving objectives specified in their Individual Work Plan through instruction and training techniques.
• Serve as a Christian role model and leader, demonstrating problem‑solving, customer service and work ethic, and ensuring a Christian work environment.
• Assist, train and review the individual served in greenhouse operations, providing input to the Greenhouse & Garden Center Coordinator on other Greenhouse Technician performance.
• Communicate cultural practices for each crop to the individuals served and other technicians.
• Ensure all plant material is properly maintained (potting, watering, fertilizing, cleaning, grooming) according to established quality standards.
• Assist the Garden Center & Greenhouse Coordinator in planning production, allocating space, scheduling availability, and setting planting dates.
• Ensure quality of plants and products, disposing of diseased or poor quality material as directed by the supervisor.
• Work as a cooperative, helpful team member, ensuring quality products are produced to performance standards.
• Develop and implement pest control and weed control procedures, including spraying weeds on the grounds and inside greenhouses.
• Maintain cleanliness, safety, and security of greenhouses, growing pads, grounds, and Head House, and uphold workplace safety and security.
• Assist in developing weekly production notes for department staff and individuals served, establishing goals for productivity, organization, and cleanliness.
• Follow directives of the Greenhouse & Garden Center Coordinator, not discarding products or materials without clearance.
• Maintain flexibility and adapt to the immediate needs of the individuals served, building marketable skills or crafts.
• Report non‑compliance issues to the Garden Center & Greenhouses Coordinator promptly.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the Garden Center & Greenhouse Coordinator, Horticulture Director, or Chief Operating Officer/Human Resources Director.
